The Cat’s Cradle Audio Edition!

Click HERE for the Audio Edition!

After years of research and development (or, more accurately, about three hours on YouTube), I finally tried recording one of my older entries from The Cat’s Cradle.  Wonder of wonders, it worked!  Sort of.  Since I won’t be able to do a more substantial entry this week, I wanted to take this opportunity and make some introductions.

For those of you just tuning in, I’m Kat Clements, a fantasy author-in-progress.  The Cat’s Cradle is my beta website and blog where I discuss topics related to writing, storytelling, fantasy, science fiction, and other geek-related material.  For the past three years, my entries have been solely text-based, but now I’ve decided to create audio versions for people who either don’t have the time or inclination to read from the computer and for those with visual impairments.

The audio recordings of my blog entries will be posted on YouTube as podcast episodes.  I looked at some different podcasting sites as potential hosts but they either had too many restrictions or cost money.  I really want to offer downloadable content for listeners, but right now, I’m not sure how to do that safely and efficiently.  I will include a link to the podcast at the beginning of each blog entry so you can click on that to listen or you can follow The Cat’s Cradle on YouTube.

I do post a lot of links in my entries, so at the end of each podcast, I will include a list of the links that I used.  Those links will also be in the description of the YouTube videos, in case you want to do any more follow-up.

Please bear with me, as this is the first time I’ve done anything like this and I’m sure in the beginning things will be a little rough.  Eventually, I want to go back and make most of my old entries into podcast episodes as well.  But that is a project for another day.

Again I apologize for not having more to report this week, and for getting behind on my Final Fantasy VII fanfic “Hidden Light.” With the onset of winter and overtime at work, things have been a little hectic.  (When are they not?)

Until then, I hope you enjoy these Audio Editions of The Cat’s Cradle!

  1. I was confused to find this AFTER your first audio edition, but then I kept listening and it made sense.

A general tip (if you’re not already doing this): Watch for audio consistency. I’ve listened to some of these back-to-back and the audio level sometimes changes significantly. When you’re about to edit a new entry, play one of your past entries and adjust your volume knob so that it’s comfortable. Then edit the new one with your volume at that same setting, so it will match.

Also, if you want the MP3’s to be more easily downloadable, you could try putting them on a Google Drive for the Cat’s Cradle and linking to them in your video descriptions. OR, you could just link to this page instead:

    1. Yeah, sorry about the confusion. This was the first time I’d decided to tackle the Audio Edition idea, and now I’ve been going back and recording entries that came before this one… which is you are watching in sequence would be confusing.

Thank you for the tip! I had not noticed and didn’t realize that it wasn’t recording at a consistent level. Luckily I still have the original Audacity files, so I can probably adjust that and replace the uneven ones.

OMG I love that link. Thank you! I will start putting that in my video descriptions.
